Ridge Avenue Mid-Century Modern Renovation

Jim and Amanda said the only thing they loved more than the mid-century modern character of their split-level home in Evanston’s Ridge Historic District was their neighbors. Their challenge to us was to get more out of the existing footprint without creating an addition so they could stay in the house and neighborhood they love.  We designed the project to be tackled in two distinct phases, kitchen on the south, primary suite on the north.  We  reconfigured the existing kitchen as a much needed mudroom, and expanded the kitchen into the former dining room. The living room was a bit larger than they needed and absorbed the dining room table. Since they have a garage off the alley, we were able to transform the attached garage and lower level bathroom into a proper primary suite just a few steps from the kitchen level.
